It is probably no surprise to anyone that I am a huge fan of Andrew McMahon’s work (singer, songwriter, pianist for Something Corporate, Jack’s Mannequin, and Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness). After all, I do have a tattoo written in his handwriting on my shoulder. That’s a dedicated fan! So, to have a drink with him just seemed appropriate and something I’ve really wanted to do for awhile. Let’s face it, when I set my mind to something, I’m getting it!

For a background on Andrew and why I think he is such an inspiration, please check out when I met him in 2010 (Meet Andrew McMahon) and also when I got a tattoo done.

Andrew came to concert in Virginia Beach during memorial weekend last month. I hadn’t seen in him concert for 2 years prior to this. Luckily he put on a great show as always. Afterwards, I was able to meet him since he loves to meet his fans. I showed him my tattoo and he remembered writing it for me, saying that “not many people ask him to do that.” I then proceeded to ask him if I were to bring liquor to his show in Richmond next month, would he take a drink with me. He said absolutely yes! I asked what he wanted, and he said jager. I told him that he better not forget and he promised he wouldn’t. That’s a good guy right there.

So, a month later came and I was off to Richmond to watch him play. After the show we waited for him to come out to meet his fans. When it was my turn to greet him, we hugged and I showed him the liquor bottle. He smiled and said he did remember. Unfortunately, the guards there were strict so he asked me to open the bottles while he distracted them by taking a picture of Seth and me. I then handed him the bottle, we both took a shot and the drink was over. I then proceeded to congratulate him on 10 years of being cancer free and he hugged me again saying thanks.

I would much rather sit down and have a drink with him and actually have real conversations, but hey, I’ll take what I can get. After all, I’m pretty grateful and lucky that I’ve been able to meet, and talk with my favorite singer and inspiration as much as I have over the years. Hopefully many more to come as well.

*Thank you Seth for accompanying me on this adventure. Also, thank you Andrew for being such an inspirational person. I will never get tired of saying that.

Would I do this again? Of course!!!!!

How to do this: He meets his fans after every show. Just ask!
