LOCATION: Cincinnati, Ohio
One thing that the city of Cincinnati is famous for is their skyline chili. A friend from college was from there and used to brag about this unique chili on top of spaghetti and piled with cheese. Naturally, I had to try it.
Skyline Chili actually originated in Greece, something I never expected. Nicholas Lambrinides moved to Cincinnati from Greece with his mother’s chili recipes. He opened up a restaurant overlooking the skyline of Cincinnati in 1949 and has flourished ever since. Even with the growth, the recipe has never changed and uses a unique blend of spices.
There are a few ways to eat this chili. Two main menu choices are Coneys and Ways. Coneys are hotdogs with mustard, chili, onions and cheese. There are several different choices for their famous Ways. 3 Ways are spaghetti, chili, and cheese. 4 Ways are the addition of onions or beans and 5 Ways are the addition of onions and beans.
I decided to try a small 4 Way with beans and a Coney. The chili sauce was very smooth and had a hint of cinnamon in it. Luckily they gave us bibs because it was also super messy. The Coneys were really good whereas the 4 Way just seemed odd on spaghetti. However, I would recommend eating here as it was really good!!
*Thanks Lina, Krista and Katie for accompanying me on this adventure!
WOULD I DO IT AGAIN?: Absolutely! The Coneys were really good!
