#270: See the Mona Lisa

The Mona Lisa. She was tiny!

The Mona Lisa. She was tiny!

LOCATION: Louvre. Paris, France

This item is part of my Contiki Trip Series.

How can someone go to Paris and NOT see the Mona Lisa. Like the Eiffel Tower, it just seems like the iconic thing a tourist must see. After seeing so many pictures and representations of the painting, I just had to see it myself.

The Louvre is a very large place, so finding exactly where the Mona Lisa was, was kind of hard. Even with all the signage pointing you in the direction, I was easily lost in the vast corridors. Eventually, I saw a room with more people in it than I had seen in other areas and figured this had to be it. But, where was the Mona Lisa? As I walked closer, I finally found her.

Tucked away on a wall, was the painting. It was SO small! After seeing photos for most of my life, I imagined this huge painting of this glorious woman and here it was only 30x20inches big. While the painting was still impressive, I was very shocked to know that it was not a big painting at all. I guess greatness really does come in small packages. Regardless, it was amazing to finally be face to face with such a historical piece.

WOULD I DO IT AGAIN?: I wouldn’t mind seeing this exhibit again. The Louvre in general was great and I would love to explore more of it.

Contiki Travel is HIGHLY recommended. I would do this all over again a million times. www.contiki.com
