#268: See the Eiffel Tower

Eiffel Tower

Eiffel Tower

LOCATION: Paris, France

This item is part of my Contiki Trip Series.

I love buildings and architecture, so it was a given that I had to see and go up in the Eiffel Tower. Not only was it very pretty to see, but it is the icon of France. The tower was put up in 1889 by Gustave Eiffel and was the tallest man made structure in the world for 41 years until the Chrysler Building in NY was built.

You can choose to ride the elevator to the various levels or take the stairs. Since I was sick, I should have taken the elevator. However, since we only had a few hours to do everything in Paris, we took the stairs. Man, were those some stairs!!! I definitely think if you aren’t fit, the stairs aren’t the best way to go because they were steep and there were a lot of them. Maybe I felt that way because I was sick, but still. After making it to the second level, Shiran and I were out of breath and tired. The second level proved to have some great views though. You could see far into the city from that level, so I can only imagine what the top would show.

After about 10 minutes or so in the tower, it was time to bid it adieu. We needed to get to the Louvre!

*Thank you Shiran for accompanying me on this adventure

WOULD I DO IT AGAIN?: Yes, I would love to make it up to the top! I would also love to see it at night. This is a must for any tourist.

Contiki Travel is HIGHLY recommended. I would do this all over again a million times. www.contiki.com
