LOCATION: Paris, France
This item is part of my Contiki Trip Series.
As soon as we arrived in Paris, we went straight to a small Parisian café called Le Solferino Cafe to try champagne and escargot. Something I learned while in Napa Valley, champagne can not be called champagne unless it was from Champagne, France. Drinking champagne that was actually from this region and drinking it IN France just seemed worth it to me. There really wasn’t anything spectacular about it, it was champagne…but…I was in FRANCE! There is a difference trust me.
We were served a small amount of escargot to try. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about eating snails. I mean, its snails! But, everything is worth a shot at least once, right? The escargot was still in the shell and was baked in a butter and garlic sauce.
The entire group seemed hesitant at first, but we all dug in. I was thoroughly impressed with the taste! I loved them actually! I was expecting a squishy texture to them, but they had a meaty texture. The butter and garlic was a nice touch and it reminded me of a harder mushroom. Seriously some good eats there!
*Thank you Shiran for accompanying me on this adventure
WOULD I DO IT AGAIN?: The champagne was good, but was just like all the other ones I’ve had. BUT…TRY ESCARGOT!!!!! I wish I had made that a bucket list item instead.
Contiki Travel is HIGHLY recommended. I would do this all over again a million times. www.contiki.com
