LOCATION: Veritas Vineyard. Afton, VA

After having a blast on my Napa Valley wine tasting tour, I definitely wanted to try some more wine and with friends! Charlottesville and the Shenandoah Valley area in Northern Virginia are known for the multiple wineries. The area is littered with them. It was hard to choose what ones to go to, but we narrowed them down to three that were within the same area together.\

The first winery we went to was Cardinal Point. They had a small room with a walk up bar. We tasted 5 wines; 2 whites, 2 reds and 1 dessert wine. I’m a red wine fan, and just thought the wines were ok. Nothing spectacular. I definitely wasn’t expecting the very small tasting room though. After about 10 minutes in there, we made our way to the next winery.

Our next winery was Veritas. I had heard many great things about this place. The area was a large amount of land with a gorgeous cabin type house. When you walk in, the atmosphere made it known that this was a mountain house for sure. So much better than the last place. We were able to go on a winery tour with our tasting, tasting the wines along the way. We tried 7 wines on this tour. 3 were whites and 4 were reds, which made me happy. They had a really great cabernet wine that I should have bought. The wine tour took us into the cellar and described the process for making wine. We learned that white wine is red grapes with the skin removed. I found that interesting. After sipping on some wine, we chilled out on the lounge chairs in the field and ate some lunch. It was a nice day and perfect setting to just lay out.

After spending enough time at Veritas, we headed to Kings Family for our last winery. The place was another large cabin house and the inside was decorated with moose décor. They offered 7 wines to taste as well. 3 whites, 3 reds and 1 dessert wine. I wasn’t into any of the wines they had either.

With only trying three wineries in the area out of the 100s there, I can’t wait to go back and try some different places. I love wine tours!
