LOCATION: San Francisco, CA.
This item is part of my Trek America Trip Series.
I was in San Francisco for 4 days and only two of the days I was actually able to SEE the Golden Gate Bridge. I had no idea that the fog was really that bad in the area. The fog that is experienced is a sea fog and is created by the lateral transfer of temperature by wind blowing over cooler water. This fog naturally air conditions the city, but really it just made my hair a bunch of curly, frizzy mess.
The Golden Gate bridge is a suspension bridge built in 1933. Driving over it really showed how massive it was. On my last day in San Francisco, I was really able to get some amazing pictures of the fog rolling in around it. Truly beautiful even if the bridge was mostly covered. Next time I go, I want to walk across the bridge!
While looking up some facts about the bridge, I saw an interesting section on suicides. Apparently, more people die by suicide at the bridge than any other spot in the world. That’s crazy!! Jumpers hit the water going about 75 mph and usually die on impact or from hypothermia.
WOULD I DO IT AGAIN?: YES. The bridge is so beautiful.
Trek America Travel is HIGHLY recommended. I would do this all over again a million times. www.trekamerica.com
