LOCATION: Cozumel, Mexico
This item is part of my Cozumel Trip Series.
Cozumel is known as a diving island since they have some of the best diving in Mexico there. Dad and I couldn’t wait to go. Our last ocean dive experience was in Key Largo in 2008 during a hurricane, so we were hoping this experience would be much better. We got onto the boat and were told it would be a drift dive. This basically meant we would start at one end, and drift to the other end where the boat would pick us up. We wouldn’t have to swim hardly any and just basically hover over everything we were seeing. I’d never done a drift dive, but it sounded fun.
One of the best things about this dive, was that we all had a dive guide to show us along. Dad and I are horrible with underwater navigation so I was really happy about this. We dove into the water and already it was a great dive. There was so much coral to look at. When we went to Key Largo before, it was a mass of coral, then nothing. Here, the coral was everywhere! The drift dive was interesting too. The current was so strong. If I needed to go back to something, I felt like I was struggling to get back and was constantly being pushed forward. There was no fighting it.
Dad’s diving experience is much different from mine. I feel like he’s spastic and all over the place, and I’m constantly looking for where my buddy went. He would touch everything while I scolded him underwater. It was fun though. After two drift dives we were done. Even though there isn’t a lot of swimming, it still really tires you out. I would love to go to Cozumel for diving again some time.
*Thank you Dad for accompanying me on this adventure.
WOULD I DO IT AGAIN?: Yes, this was a fun drift dive.
